About our work
Most Moving Memoirs are very personal videos meant for loved ones, so showing our work isn't always possible.
Calgary sculptor Martin Askew and our videographer have graciously permitted us to show this custom project:
a two-minute introduction to Askewbism, Martin's art. Please enjoy this glimpse at an exceptional local talent, and see more sculptures and giclee prints at martinaskew.com
About us
Local freelance talent
Producing professional videos takes a skilled team. For our memoir work, it's usually a team of three: interviewer, camera operator, and post-production editor. When you choose to work with Moving Memoirs, you're supporting local Alberta talent.
Our founder, Joan Bondar, has spent undisclosed decades reading, writing, interviewing, and editing for clients from many walks of life. She's learned something from everyone she's interviewed. Joan has the "editor's curse" that Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis spoke of: being interested in everything.
After helping a few clients self-publish, Joan was unhappy to learn that the family members for whom the books were written rarely took the time to read them. Yet, they'd sit for hours watching videos and clicking social media links.
We've become a society of watchers; readers are in the minority.
And so, Moving Memoirs was founded to help clients communicate with friends and family in a way that engages more senses and is accessible to all ages. In fact, closed-captioning extends video's reach to those with hearing impairment, and can be provided in most languages.
Joan appreciates her talented freelancers and the joy they bring to clients when they see their finished videos. She's striving to attract skilled interviewers in many more languages so Moving Memoirs can serve more Albertans.

Serving Calgary, Alberta and area
Moving Memoirs wishes to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land. We pay respect to Elders – past, present and emerging – and recognise their ongoing connection to our beautiful country's land, oceans, and community. In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the îethka Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 5 and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
